Red sky at night

Went out for a mooch this evening. I would like to assure anyone across the pond who may be familiar with a less pleasant definition of the term 'mooch', that here in Blighty, to mooch is to 'mozey aimlessly', not to go out on the scrounge.
Tomorrow is probably going to be the beginning of some more settled, sunny weather. This is not what around 1600 crews will be wanting to hear for Saturday's Round the Island Race forecast. At present, it's looking more like a Round the Island floaty drift, with a bit of kedging thrown in and a few hundred retirements for those who won't make the finish in time.
We competed the year before last. It was more of a Round the Island Bash. Although I would have preferred more moderate conditions, it will be a frustrating race if the forecast stays at the current Northerly 7 knots, if there's no sea breeze to look forward to come 2 o'clock. This is where local knowledge really matters. Those in the know find the zephyrs, know where the tide will favour them and generally, how to sail the course as well as possible. I am not into rock spotting off the bow for a gain on our boat, but would happily do so on anyone elses.
We might go out to take some pictures, as they will almost certainly have a kite run out through Hurst Narrows to the Needles, which is a sight to behold. Will also be keeping my ears pricked for the plonkers that always get it wrong and whack Varvassi, a wreck that many a keel has loudly clanged over the years. If it's calm, you can hear from quite a distance. Hee hee.

What breathtaking pics, tho! Not just these of the sky, but those in your former post too. Meant to send that comment to you yesterday but got sidetracked.

T - It wasn't for the majority of the boats. 50% retired, lots of frayed tempers and sunburn methinks. Thank you!
